Lent Courses across the Team

Checkendon begins Tues 2nd March, 1.45 - 3.15pm at the Rectory for four weeks, led by the Rector.  We are studying The Lost History of Christianity by Philip Jenkins.  Please inform the Rector if you would like to come.  You will need to purchase the book, and have read the first two chapters before our meeting!  We tend to think of the history of Christianity in terms of Canterbury and Rome.  This book will introduce us to another "lost" history, one which starts at Jerusalem, but then heads eastwards......

Stoke Row will meet on Wednesday evenings at 7.30pm at Roseways, starting on 24th February.  Contact Kathy Brewer for details.

Whitchurch 7.30pm at Shepherds Close, starting Wed 24th February for six weeks.  We shall be looking at Joel Edwards' Encounters with Jesus.  Contact Paul & Geraldine Witcher for further information.

Woodcote A Lent Group based on the book Growing in Love by Ann Lewin; a series reflection on Christian living drawing on insights from the writings of Julian of Norwich.  The group will meet for five sessions beginning in the week of 22nd Feb.  If you are interested, please sign up in church or contact Linda so that a mutually convenient meeting time can be arranged.

Lent Lunches

Whitchurch lunches are from 12.30 to 2pm and donations will be split between church maintenance and a charity of the host's choice.  Money from the Woodcote lunch (12-2pm) will go towards maintenance and running costs of St Leonard's.  A phone call beforehand would be appreciated by the hosts so they can gauge numbers.

Prayer

SOXGRIP (South Oxfordshire Grass Roots Initiative for Prayer) is a non-denominational group of people who meet together to pray for the villages of Whitchurch, Whitchurch Hill, Woodcote and Goring Heath. They meet on the last Thursday of each month and pray for all aspects of life in the villages. If at any time you would like prayer for something, or would like to join the prayer group, please contact Elizabeth Ricketts on 01491 682604.

Checkendon Prayer Group Every Wednesday, a small group of people meet in Checkendon church from 11.00 - 11.30am to pray. This time of prayer is open to everyone and you are warmly invited to come along either to join the group or to sit quietly with your own thoughts and prayers. If you would like prayers to be said for yourself or on behalf of others or for a particular concern please write the request on a slip and place it in the box or on a leaf and attach it to the Prayer Tree which you will find near the pulpit.

Alternative Prayer Group meets on the second Monday of the month at 7.30pm.   New members will be very welcome. Ring Michael and Mary Weller on 01491 681692 for more details.

Eastfield House Whitchurch-on-Thames On the third Wednesday of the month there is a short service (30-40 minutes) of praise and prayer at Eastfield House residential care home at 2.30pm. This is led by a team of lay people from Whitchurch and is primarily for the residents, but visitors are most welcome to join us.
